Palisades St. Park History
Palisades State Park features majestic Sioux quartzite formations that rise up to 50 feet over Split Rock Creek. The rocks, estimated by geologists to be up to 1.2 billion years old, range from towering spires and cliffs to shelves perched just a few feet above the water. The park gets its name from the once-bustling town of Palisades, which was set on a bluff overlooking the creek and home to a large flour mill in the late 1800s.
